COPYRIGHT
---------
Lost_Icon is Copyright (⌐)Rod MacLean 1995. I give permission to copy this
program and any other files e.g. readme files et.c. as long as YOU agree
not to make any money from this product. You can charge a minimal copying
fee as long as the total cost is not more than twice the price of a blank
disk and a stamp. (Currently that would be about ú1, ú1.10 or so.) Lost_Icon
can go on CD rom collections as long as they are not more expensive than any
CD rom games.
If you want Lost_Icon for a magazine coverdisk then it's going to cost you
2pence for each copy of the magazine which you sell.
There is no shareware fee. If you've got Lost_Icon you can use it for free -
it's a gift from me to you! If you want to send my ú5 then you can! I will
no complain if you do!
DISCLAIMER
----------
If your computer decides that it's time to die and you're running my program
then I want nothing to do with it... it shouldn't happen though!
WHO IS IT FOR & WHY
-------------------
Right, that's the disclaimer out of the way!
You can do what you want with this but it's intended really for people with
loads of mem.
You're doing a batch operation on ADPro, Rendering in Imagine or whatever
and in the meantime you decide to mess about on the workbench screen.
You change your prefs and presto! All of your carefully laid out and
'snapshot' icons are in the top left hand corner of the screen!
Arrgh! What do you do? You left out hundreds of utils icons or liked the ones
did leave out how you left them and not where they now are.
It's either unbearable trying to find the one you want (or you're fussy) and
you can't reboot (because Imagine is still only 4.2% rendered), what do you
do? You run "lost_icon"!
WHAT DOES IT DO?
----------------
To put it simply, what this program does is tell WB to bloody well put your
icons where they were!
It does this by reading in the icon... then writing it out again, fooling
WB into thinking that the icon is somehow different...
WB says "Aha! I'll just find out where that should be...."
Where should it be?
Where it was last snapshot.
Of course, this means that the disk the file is on has to be write enabled
but that's a small price to pay.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO RUN THIS?
-----------------------------
1, An Amiga. Hmm... Hands up who hasn't got one and is reading this...
2, Reqtools Library...
(ReqTools is copyright Nico Francois and is absolutely wonderful)
3, WB 2 or better... (sorry 1.2 & 1.3 owners, you can't have AppWindows,
upgrade soon, please, it's so much better!)
4, It will probably be of most use to hard-drive owners and people who
have enough memory to do lots of things at once.
CAVEATS
-------
Of course, if a disk (or any other file for that matter) has NO icon, or the
icon is read only, then 'lost icon' can only twiddle it's thumbs.
BUGS
----
None that I know of... Of course if there are I'd love to know about it.

HISTORY
-------
Feb ?? 95 - 1.00 First version.... worked, barely.
Mar 16 95 - 1.01 Added a lovely little "drop 'lost' icons here" message.
Mar 16 95 - 1.02 Solved the problem where we crashed if the font
wasn't an 8 pointer.
Mar 17 95 - 1.03 Nothing much has been done functionally. The code is
easier for me to read (& modify).
Mar 17 95 - 1.04 Ahha! Now we really do work if the font isn't an 8
pointer! 8╖)
Mar 17 95 - 2.xx I rewrote the code completely.. and accidentally
deleted it! ARRRGH!
Aug 01 95 - 3.1 Believe it or not, i forgot all about Lost_Icon until
today. I just gave Lost_Icon a *real* user interface
and help messages et.c. Lost_Icon now also has sound
(via UpD). See the file Read.Me.Upd
Aug 11 95 - 3.2 A problem in 3.1 meant that Lost_Icon couldn't put
drawers back where they belonged. I've just sorted
this out.
To Do... clean up the code 8^)
write something useful :)
